UNIT OBJECTIVES - Examine the internal dynamics of Asian American communities around outmarriage and race
- Examine how these politics have changed since the 1960s
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS - Describe the current debate over the 'declining' Japanese American community AND explain how multiracial or multiethnic Japanese Americans fit into that debate. Use the JA identity discussion thread in particular.
- In what ways are they counted or not counted in terms of offical census data and in the community? Please draw from the King article.
- What role, if any, do people of multiracial/multiethnic Asian descent have in the AA community? Or are they a separate community?
TASKS FOR THIS WEEK
- Wednesday, April 2nd - Post response to the reading questions in the discussion forum - Who is Asian American? by 5pm
- Respond to at least two other postings by 10:00pm
